Dragon Boat Festival, also called Duanwu Festival, is one of the most important traditional festivals in China. People celebrate this festival on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, which falls on June 25th of the Gregorian calendar this year.
Dragon Boat Festival has a history of more than 2,000 years. People hold various activities to celebrate the festival, such as eating zongzi, dragon boat racing, and hanging calamus and moxa leaves. The festival is also a time for families to get together.
As a foreigner in China, I am always happy to experience and learn about the traditional Chinese culture. Last year, I went to a local park with my Chinese friend and her family to celebrate Dragon Boat Festival. We made zongzi together, and they taught me how to wrap them. The zongzi which they made were different from those I had before, and taste very delicious.
We also watched the dragon boat racing and cheered for our team. Although we didn't win the game, we had a great time. At night, we hung calamus and moxa leaves over the door to drive away insects and diseases.
Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time to cherish the traditional culture, but also an opportunity to strengthen family ties. We should take this chance to celebrate the festival with our family, especially during this time when people are too busy with their work and life.
